"IMS Japan Conference 2021" was held online on September 9-11, 2021.

The holding procedure is as follows.

The COVID-19 pandemic has also had a significant impact on the fields of education and human resource development, reaffirming the possibilities and challenges of using online learning and ICT education. (Unknowingly, the computerization of education in Japan, which had been drained to many developed countries and some developing countries, brought about disparities in regions, schools, and homes in Japan, and continued "learning". LTI 1.3 Overview and Latest Trends (15 minutes)

Unlike traditional LTI 1.1, LTI 1.3 is compliant with the Security Framework with OAuth 2 and OpenID Connect at its core and occupies an important position as a standard for building a secure ecosystem. Two years have passed since the release in 2019, and security reviews and new standards have been proposed, so I will give an overview of them.

"Improving EdTech Interoperability: Conformance, Certification and characterization"

Certification is an important part of the IMS EdTech ecosystem. Certification demonstrates the vendor's commitment to creating a sustainable EdTech ecosystem. One of the benefits of IMS membership is the ability to list certified products under the IMS product directory. This directory is the official list of products that have passed the IMS Interoperability Certification. The corresponding conformance test system is created as part of the development of the IMS specification. These conformance testing systems are used to demonstrate certification. We introduced characterization as part of our efforts to improve support for adoption and adaptation of IMS specifications. The characterization provides more details on how the deployed system supports the relevant IMS EdTech interoperability specifications. In this presentation, the IMS Chief Architect explains:

1) Importance of conformity and certification.

2) Why compliance is not a useful measure of interoperability.

3) How can characterizations be used to ensure interoperability?

4) How can the Japanese IMS community begin preparing to use characterization?

IMS Technical Congress held in August 2021
In 2021, 14 sessions will be held to explain the process of developing the IMS technical standard, update the LTI1.3, QTI3, CLR, Security Framework, Common Data Model, which are the core of the IMS technical standard, and finally release this year. History and standardization of online learning environment at Tohoku University

At Tohoku University, with the update of the learning support system (LMS) in 2021, we replaced the system with the system that was originally developed and operated on-premises, IMS LTI, which is a technical standard for learning tool compatibility, and learning history. We have introduced an LMS that operates on the public cloud in support of IMS Caliper, which is the technical standard for recording methods.

Case study of digital badge at Osaka Kyoiku University

From the perspective of countermeasures for COVID-19, Osaka Kyoiku University has opened an original teacher license renewal course on the Web, starting with the on-demand compulsory course and optional compulsory course this year on Tuesday, July 20. The most distinctive feature of this course is that digital badges are issued on the completion of each course.
The issuing of the digital badge, IMS open badge, was realized in collaboration with NPO CCC-TIES. NPO CCC-TIES has been involved in online education system construction, solutions, and consulting since 2006.

"Learning DX" and international technical standards ​

Microsoft 365 is one of the cloud services provided by Microsoft and is used by many educational institutions as well as companies. In this presentation, we will introduce the utilization of Microsoft 365 in the field of education and the inter-system cooperation using OneRoster of IMS Global.

LTI and OneRoster support for learning e-portal "L-Gate"

We would like to introduce the learning e-portal "L-Gate" as an example of system cooperation and interoperability based on international technical standards. In "L-Gate", we will adopt LTI for connection with the online learning system (MEXCBT) that guarantees learning and teaching materials / apps, and will realize the sharing of list information using OneRoster.

Learning ePortal Standard Model and International Technical Standards

Various teaching materials and tools are linked to realize individual optimal learning and collaborative learning that bring out the potential of all children by effectively utilizing the environment for each person prepared by the GIGA school concept. You need a digital learning environment that works with.
The learning e-portal, which acts as a hub for this digital learning environment, is said to be the contact point from each school to the "Learning Guarantee Online Learning System (MEXCBT)", which is a CBT provided by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The learning e-portal standard model version 1.0 uses LTI to connect the "learning e-portal" and the "learning guarantee online learning system". In this presentation, we will introduce the background and contents of the learning e-portal standard model formulation and consider the significance of adopting the international standard for inter-system connection.

1. CASE and CASE Network (10 minutes)

CASE is an IMS technical standard for making curriculum standards, skill standards, rubrics, and syllabus descriptions machine-readable. Information on these learning goals and evaluation criteria is printed on digital badges such as certificate of completion in teaching materials, learning history data, and is required for automatic processing by machines (AI). 2. Practical example of CASE in Japan (20 minutes)
